This is a great way to solve the problem of water scarcity in coastal towns. I am interested to see the next steps for larger scale testing of the sponge. I do have a question about the durability of the sponges, how long can a sponge be used before it is spent? Days, Months, Years, Indefinitely?

Thank you for your question. The durability of the sponge is one of the very important properties for the field applications. For Phase I, our test was relatively short to show the proof-of-concept and we have proposed the durability test under harsh environments including salinity, temperature, and exposure time to sunlight for Phase II. Briefly, the durability would be two functions of the materials which consist of the sponge: one is MoS2 coating to the sponge and the sponge itself which is ClearFlex 50 (Urethane Rubber (PU)).
